Bat Exclusion — Waupaca Attic

A bat colony in a Waupaca attic was excluded humanely and legally with one-way doors, and every entry point sealed so they could not return.

The Field Report

Inspection

A Waupaca homeowner found staining at the roofline and heard squeaking at dusk — signs of a bat colony in the attic. Because all Wisconsin bats are protected by law, removal must be humane and timed to avoid maternity season.

What We Found

  • A small bat colony roosting in the attic between the gable vent and the soffit
  • Guano buildup on the insulation below the entry point
  • Multiple secondary gaps along the roofline that bats could use to re-enter

Treatment

We installed one-way exclusion devices over the primary entry points so bats could leave to feed at night but could not return. Every secondary gap was sealed. Exclusion was timed so no flightless pups were trapped inside.

Follow-Up

The colony fully exited within a few nights. We removed the contaminated insulation, sanitized the attic, and confirmed with a dusk watch that no bats were returning. The attic is now sealed and the homeowners enjoy the bats hunting mosquitoes over their yard — just not in their house.

Humane, legal bat exclusion in Waupaca, WI — colony out, attic sealed, bats still helping with mosquitoes.
