Raccoon Removal — New London Chimney & Attic

A raccoon in a New London chimney and attic was removed humanely, the chimney capped, and the roofline sealed to prevent re-entry.

The Field Report

Inspection

A New London homeowner heard heavy thumping in the chimney and attic at night — a raccoon had taken up residence. Raccoons tear into attics, rip shingles, and carry roundworm parasites, so removal needed to happen quickly and humanely.

What We Found

  • A raccoon entering through an uncapped chimney and accessing the attic
  • Torn insulation and damaged ductwork in the attic
  • A separate soffit entry point the raccoon had chewed open

Treatment

We used a live trap and one-way exclusion to remove the raccoon humanely, following Wisconsin DNR regulations. We then capped the chimney, repaired the chewed soffit, and sealed the attic entry points so no raccoon — or squirrel — could get back in.

Follow-Up

No more thumping. The capped chimney and repaired roofline mean this New London home is wildlife-proof. We removed the contaminated insulation and sanitized the attic to eliminate health risks.
